U.S. Veteran

Roy C. Chaffin 91, of Cookeville, TN passed away July 4, 2012 at his home. He was born April 17, 1921 to the late Ben and Edna Chaffin. Roy was a retired Sawmill Operator and Farmer. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the Destroyer 357 USS Selfridge that was engaged in three major battles in the Pacific theater.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Grace Chaffin; Brother: Robert Chaffin; Two sisters: Winnie Chaffin and Mildred Chaffin Pippin.

He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws: Thomas and Kay Chaffin, Dennis and Shirley Chaffin; Five Grandchildren: Curtis Chaffin, Dawn Chaffin, Kristie Chaffin Marcy and Jeremy Marcy, Leanne Chaffin Murphy, and Justin Murphy, Jace Chaffin, and step grandson: Michael Clark all of the Cookeville area. Six great-grandchildren: Kaylin Maxwell, Leanna Marcy, Braylen Marcy, Lila Marcy, Gavin Murphy, and Bella Grace Murphy; Nephews and Nieces: Dewey Lee Pippin of Gainesboro, Nancy Chaffin Davies, Glenn Chaffin, and David Chaffin of Michigan.

Services will be conducted on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11:00AM from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with burial to follow at John Young Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 4:00-9:00PM and Saturday from 7:00AM until service time at 11:00. Mr. Greg Harger and Mrs. Linda Dietz will officiate at the service.

Raymond Cole, David Cummins, Andy and Fred Bouton, Dave Whittington, and Keith Thorpe will serve as pall bearers.
